Barnegat Branch Trail


BBT Resurfacing: Please be advised that sections of the Barnegat Branch Trail in Barnegat and Ocean Townships will be temporarily closed for resurfacing beginning on May 11, 2023,. The work will begin at the trail’s intersection with Barnegat Boulevard in Barnegat Township and proceed north to Wells Mills Road in Ocean Township. For everyone’s safety, sections of the trail will be closed to the public during this time. Please observe all posted signage, and DO NOT attempt to bypass safety barricades.
****The trail is currently closed from Barnegat Boulevard in Barnegat to Pancoast Road in Ocean Township. to Please check back for details on the locations and dates of trail closures in this area. Thank you for your patience while we work to improve the trail!


On October 15, 2007 the Barnegat Branch Trail was officially opened to the public. This “rail-to-trail” project follows the abandoned Barnegat Branch Division of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. The trail will be constructed in several phases, and will stretch 15.6 miles from Barnegat to Toms River once completed.

As always trail users are urged to be safe and stay aware of their surroundings. Please adhere to closures as this ensures safety of everyone and enables our contractor to complete the work in a timely manner.
